Born in Tennessee, educated in Pennsylvania & North Carolina, Katherine Cobb’s passion for all fiber arts has been evident since she took apart her sewing machine at age 8 – and got it back together again. Hers is a left-brain/right-brain kind of life – Katherine’s an economist and Realtor, after spending many years as a corporate executive. She also owns Urban Way, a home furnishings/art gallery in the Village of the Arts in Bradenton, Fl.

“Art is a thought , a belief, a passion that gets expressed. For a long time,  I thought I wasn’t artistic, but now that I’ve rethought what art means, I realize I can express myself in painting and in textiles.”

Katherine designs and creates art in fabrics such as canvas, silk, wool, metallics, suede, leather tapestries, old curtains, sheers & rayon, but rarely uses the traditional quilter’s cotton. Found objects, beads, twine, even twigs find their way into her creations.

Education: MBA in finance, The Wharton School; BA in economics/ management, NC State University. She resides in Sarasota, Fl. with her husband John Coulombe.
